Fret X - April 2008

Cannonball - Damien Rice

April 26th 2008 06:19
This is such a pretty song, and a great way to kick things off.

Damien Rice - Cannonball

This song is orignially played with the capo on the 6th fret - but you can obviously play it any key to suit your voice.

Don't be daunted by tabs if you have never read them before - that is fine, basically each line represents a string (6 strings - 6 lines). The top line is the bottom string (the highest pitched string) and so on...

A zero represents an open string - which means you pluck the string with no fingers on the frets. If there is a 1 - you pluck the first fret on that string etc.

Sounds complicated? It takes you awhile to get the hang of it - but once you grasp the concept you can basically teach yourself any song you like - you just have to work at it.

We will discuss the other symbols at a later date.

But there is nothing more rewarding than figuring out how to play your favourite songs.

Watch this clip to see how the song is played.

If you watch the clip and then read the tab - it should make your job a little easier - try to match up the different sections - and just concentrate on getting each part to sound fluent - it is rewarding once it starts to come together!

Lyrics

Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt
Still a little hard to say what's going on

Still a little bit of your ghost your witness
Still a little BIT of your face I haven't kissed
You step a little closer EACH DAY
THAT I can't SAY what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannonball

Still a little bit of your song in my ear
Still a little bit of your words I long to hear
You step a little closer TO ME
So close that I can't see what's going on

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to lie
Life taught me to die
So it's not hard to fall
When you float like a cannon

Stones taught me to fly
Love taught me to cry
So come on courage!
Teach me to be shy
'Cause it's not hard to fall
And I don't WANNA scare her
It's not hard to fall
And I don't wanna lose
It's not hard to grow
When you know that you just don't know
